Dear All: I will go back to China for lecture and will have chance to visit Zhangjiajie in Hunan for 2-3 days in May ( 05/9-5/11).

BTW. I just ordered Canon 24-70 mm. I am using 20D and 70-200mm so far.

I know some of you have a lot of experiences in Filter. Do I need some filters for this kind of national park?

Hi! Dr. Chen:

You may want to have a GND filter with you. Since there will be a lot of water. How about a CPL?

I visited there many years ago (in 1996). I have to fresh my memory. I will let you know if I have some suggestions.

我也没去过，很抱歉。

我最常用的filter是GND,ND。因我很少白天拍片，所以CPL用得少些。

我也用24-70mm. 但常想，假如我再重新买个镜头的话，我会选择24-105mm。 70mm 稍嫌短点。

GND is a must. CPL can be very useful too. Get some adaptors so you can use one CPL on all your lens.

24-70 and 70-200 are all you need, I guess. I am not sure if you need a wider lens, but it can be helpful, since you've got an APS camera.

Get youself a Hoya R72 or 89 IR filter, you won't be regret.

Dear All:
Never use filter before. can you help me to clerify the following questions?
1. I have UV protector filter on my 70-200, should I just put on GND on the top of UV?
2. If I use CPL to shoot , let's say, a mountain with partion of sky with/without cloud, do I need to turn around the CPL? this is where I got confused. It reads as 'For deepening the color of he blue sky and making the clouds jump out at you, hold the camera at a right angle to the sun and take the photo when the sun is at 30-40 degree angle in the sky". Can any one explain this to me? I know every single English word, but I do not understand how to follow. stupid
3. When do I need to use Hoya R72? How about Hoya 89 IR? How many filters can you have on the same lens at the same time?
4. I have ND-8, is it similar as GND? Should I still be able to use them with AV or TV mode? or I have to have manual ( selec both speed and aperture.

1. Yes, you can put GND on top of UV. 有些人从来不拿开
UV. 当然玻璃层数越多影像质量越受影响。 在逆光的情况下我
会避免这样做。

2.要让天空变暗，太阳必须镜头方向有一个夹角，90度时效果最明显。 逆光和顺光时CPL几乎没有作用。

3. IR滤镜是拍红外片用的。

4. ND和GND是不同的东西。 GND是用来控制光比用的。
对于TTL测光系统来说，加了滤镜后相机会自动补偿，你可
以用任何自动模式。
